QA IS Engineer

  • High availability hardware and software logistics person for an enterprise client/server internet software manufacturer in a very fast paced, dynamic, and exciting software development and testing environment.

  • Administer high volume Quality Assurance and Tech Support Software Testing Lab.

  • Provide Lab hardware and software environments for testing effort.

  • Administer high availability FTP site for customer maintenance and electronic product distribution.

  • Administer testing environments on UNIX platforms as well as the machines themselves; backup, user accounts, disk quotas, etc.

  • Administer and Secure busy technical support website with off-site web hosting service using BSDI UNIX. Aquired, customized, and set up Perl CGI scripts for interactive website customer forum.

  • Provide HTML interface pages to Remedy Helpdesk System running on HP-UX and Oracle for Customer Service and Support Tracking System.

  • Introduced Linux SAMBA servers for no cost Windows-like file sharing.

  • Set up NT 3.51 DHCP Server for QA network segment, later migrated to Linux 2.2, and finally to Windows 2000 DHCP (at request of Network Admin Group).

  • Set up Exabyte Tape Server on NT Server for for network backup/recovery using Network Associates ArcserveIT.

  • Provide hardware/software/networking logistical support for annual user conferences and for various software technology tradeshows.

  • Y2K/disaster recovery and redundancy planning for QA & Tech Support departments' operations and FTP/Website presence.

  • Implemented a system for quick refresh of custom configured PC OS's for software testing, using hard disk imaging software.

  • Archived custom OS disk images to CDR storage media.

  • Multi platform administration: HP-UX, SUN Solaris, IBM AIX, Linux x86 & PPC, BSDI, FreeBSD, Windows NT4, Windows 2000 Beta, Beos, OS/2, MAC, Windows.

  • Interaction with all levels of personnel from the V.P. of R&D, down.

  • Working with colleagues to create a HOWTO for connecting an internal LAN to a high speed DSL internet connection via a Linux based Firewall/Router machine/DSL modem.
